Emerging British luxury watch maker Bremont recently announced their first diver’s watch. This is an important occasion for each ‘active’ watch brand. Having at least one solid diving watch is a positional and status signifier. Sort of like saying that the company is not serious about its theme unless it has a functional diving watch. Though the brand is based in England, all watches are produced in their atelier in Biel-Bienne Switzerland.
I've placed some comparison images of the limited edition model and the standard GPW for you to see the difference. You probably agree that the Elite limited edition model is something special. The case of the watch is 44mm with and about 15mm tall. Part of that has to do with the thick 3.5mm tall sapphire crystal. The lugs are place 24mm apart to allow for an impressively wide strap. 24mm is the same width as most Panerai watch straps. The design of the case itself is a blend of aggressive styling with technical futuristic look. It does this in a subtle manner because use of too many complex curves and angles makes a watch look awkward once it is on your wrist. Not the case here.
You'll notice that the new Aerospace has a much more decorated face. The original model had a face that was more bare, but helped to emphasize telling the time and the various functions of the movement. The new watch has lots of texturing and decoration on the face which I don't know if I like. I mean it looks nice, but does it belong there? I think that Breitling should have tried to recapture the "cool tool" functionality of the original Aerospace watch. There is also an odd mixutre of modern and classic design elements to the face. The minute marker ring on the outer part of the dial is totally retro looking, while the hands and LCD panels are modern. The look is just sort of confusing to me. Then again, this is a limited edition 18k red gold version of the watch. It is entirely likely that Breitling released this limited edition of 100 pieces watch before a different release of a titanium version that will be more like the original. The numerals on the new 2009 Aerospace don't look appropriate and would look better on their other non-quartz mechanical watches. I really like how they utilized 12 Arabic numerals, but the design of the font just doesn't do it for me. I want to see something that looks like what 2009 aerospace technology would seem like if you turned it into a font. Would it look like a dilapidated space station that no one wants to put money into? Perhaps it would be in Chinese? Who knows these days.

I am always curious as to what the thought process is when admirable watch makers design watches after cars. They never seem to look too much like the cars they are modeled after. this might be a bit of an exception as at least the colors match. Do you think that cars are ever modeled after watches? Maybe. Well this is the Audemars Piguet Millenary MC12 Tourbillon Chronograph. Let me unravel that name for a moment. The "Millenary" title alludes to the stlye of the case and the "MC12" name refers to the Maserati super car that the watch is based on. The MC12 is basically a race car, not even really sure if it is street legal. The MC12 is Masterati's version of the Ferrari Enzo. Then you have the tourbillon complication and the 30 minute chronograph. Audemars Piguet also throws in a power reserve indicator for the Calibre 2884 manually wound movement.
