That's it! Once I get 750 valid confirmed comments, UPDATE: the winner will be chosen at random at the end of this June. Also, for legal reasons, all participants must be in the US (or have a place in the US where the watch can be shipped to). Sorry everyone else! If you don't win, you can still buy the watch, and Gnomon Watches does ship internationally.

I said it pretty well in those articles, but I'll affirm a few things now that the watches have been released. The watches are really nice. Maybe too nice for what the market will bear right now. The Richemont DNA in the watch line expresses it self profoundly in the diversity of the look and character of the watches. The video from TheTimeTV helps elaborate on what the new line is like. Funny how videos of a watch give it a different feeling that images alone. Being able to observe their size in relation to the human body seems to make a huge difference. You'll find these watches available soon at select Ralph Lauren stores and 'fine' watch retailers.

I wonder how many Astrodea owners carry around the 10x magnifying glass (included) with them, you really need it to appreciate the ridiculous level of detail in this beautiful watch face. Something tells me that looking at the watch might be a bit profound each time to glance at your wrist. Citizen was so clever in making the hands thin, but stand out well when you are trying to tell the time. As you can imagine, this niche line of watches is rare outside of Japan, though its uniqueness has made it available online. Prices are about 0 for the various Citizen Astrodea watches.

The goal of the project is not all altruistic of course. Seiko is always on the lookout for new watch designs that will have market appeal. In the past, watches produced from the Power Design project have been successfully commercialized. Japan is known to be a lot more relaxed when it comes to releasing products to market. They have no hesitation manufacturing something with limited or untested appeal, but you don't often see these items out of Japan. Still, it is nice to know that at least in Japan companies like Seiko are willing to take risks.

That said, I'm usually not a fan of such large logos - on anything - but the swirling Bulgari double logo engraved upon the bezel is just so appropriate. The iconic nature of their name, their logo, their inherent style, creates a pattern around the sexy dial that does not distract but enhances the imagery of this model.

You'll notice that the new Aerospace has a much more decorated face. The original model had a face that was more bare, but helped to emphasize telling the time and the various functions of the movement. The new watch has lots of texturing and decoration on the face which I don't know if I like. I mean it looks nice, but does it belong there? I think that Breitling should have tried to recapture the "cool tool" functionality of the original Aerospace watch. There is also an odd mixutre of  modern and classic design elements to the face. The minute marker ring on the outer part of the dial is totally retro looking, while the hands and LCD panels are modern. The look is just sort of confusing to me. Then again, this is a limited edition 18k red gold version of the watch. It is entirely likely that Breitling released this limited edition of 100 pieces watch before a different release of a titanium version that will be more like the original.  The numerals on the new 2009 Aerospace don't look appropriate and would look better on their other non-quartz mechanical watches. I really like how they utilized 12 Arabic numerals, but the design of the font just doesn't do it for me. I want to see something that looks like what 2009 aerospace technology would seem like if you turned it into a font. Would it look like a dilapidated space station that no one wants to put money into? Perhaps it would be in Chinese? Who knows these days.

Yonger & Bresson Automatic Chronograph Snake Skin Strap Watch: For A French Cowboy Watch Releases

This article isn't just me recommending a movie with "watch" in the name, but I wanted to point out that Watchmen is another movie you can throw in the pile of films with nods to watch appreciation. There is of course the doomsday clock, that slowly moves closer to midnight. There is the fact that it was his watch that got Jon Osterman his unfortunate opportunity to turn into Dr. Manhattan because he forgot the watch in the experiment chamber and went to get it. There is also the fact that Jon's (Dr. Manhattan) father was a watchmaker - with the accompanying childhood flashback scene where the young Jon is asked by his father to take apart and put back together a mechanical watch. And of course there is the product placement of the (older) mechanical Timex watch near the end of the movie.  This is an impressive list of watch related content. Of course, all of it is from the graphic novel (not the Timex though), but I applaud the screen adapters' choice to include as much as they did in the film.

Cuervo Y Sobrinos Torpedo Pirata Moon Phase Watch, For Pirates Watch Releases

The watch itself is styled mainly after traditional aviator watches. This is seen in the hands, hour indicators, and contrast of black and white colors. You'll notice the 12 o'clock marker as being that of the "typical" pilot watch. The aviation style is subdued a bit to make for the subdials and the addition of the text on the dial. The hands could be a bit bigger, but legibility is overall good. The hour and minute indicators are ample, and there is a helpful sloped chapter ring around the dial with additional markers. The chapter ring actually has more markers than necessary given the functionality of the chronograph, but it cosmetically enhances the look of the watch. Inside the watch is a 60 minute Japanese Miyota chronograph quartz movement (with date). Miyota is Citizen watch's movement maker. The layout of the subdials not exactly what you would think. Ordinarily one subdial would used for the main dial's seconds, and the other two for the chronograph, while the large seconds hand on the dial is used for the chronograph. Here, only one subdial is used for the chronograph. The other (aside from the subsidiary seconds at 6 o' clock) is a synchronized 24 hour hand. This means that all 60 minutes that are possible to be measured are placed in one small dial. The problem is that the dial only has indicators each 5 minutes - so if you want precision you sort of need to eye it - you can have to just make out what the chronograph reads between each 5 minute marker. Not the end of the world, but this is not the watch for people who need a precise reading chronograph timepiece. For most people, the synchronized 24 hour hand is more useful. A tasteful addition to the watch is the red subsidiary seconds hand, as well as the red tip to the chronograph seconds hand.

Timex is one of the most important watch brands in the world, and is certainly the king of US watch brands in terms of volume. The company has lots of sub-brands or departments, and they consider the "Timex Expedition"  line to be its own mini entity. This watch is the result of some interesting development, and is one of the most appealing male watch designs that I've seen in a while. While the watch is unique looking, it is trying to be familiar. Let me explain. It basically strives to resemble that world of wrist-borne gadgets and instruments that we've been seeing in movies and video games for years... finally ready for us real people! The best part is that the Expedition WS4 is more than just looks, the user interface is genuinely well-designed to be easy to operate and useful. All this needs to be taken in consideration with the reasonable price of the watch, as well as it's pedigree.

"Thinking about what would result if SEIKO itself was to try its hand at designing such industrial watches led us to the theme for this year — “TOKYO”.
Rather than the watch-like feel brought into Japan from Europe, the watches here are bound to give you a “Tokyo-like” feel. In Japan, a country whose strong point lies in its attention to detail in the creation of things, the watches here are bound to feel more familiar, somehow Japanese…Tokyo-ish."

It's unfortunate that watch sales were slightly down last year for Bulgari. But with releases such as this one, especially in comparison to previous years and collections, I can see that Bulgari is definitely branching out and finding their true voice now.

Romain Jerome Moon-Dust DNA The Truth About Roswell Watch, Is A Mystery To Me Watch Releases

People associate professional instruments with IWC watches. The Aquatimer series was always for the serious enthusiast. The new line has models that almost look cartoony in some angles, and the sheer range of colors available seems to miss the point of why people chose IWC Aquatimer watches over competitor offerings. Looking at the large hands, and bight yellows, oranges, blues, and other colors, I kept thinking to myself where I had seen this before. All over Japanese dive watches of course. These looks are usually typified by watches in a much lower range, not the price points at which IWC prides itself (,000 plus).  I can't say what type of success IWC will have with the new watches, and it is possible they will be a strong commercial success. Further, this commentary isn't solely in regard to the marketing images. You can see this in the video and other images of the watches. Decide for yourself the resulting looks of the new line.

For now, Thierry and the team from Le Locle have given us the Class Lady Moonphase as one last parting gift. And what a gift it is.

The Romain Jerome Titanic DNA Tourbillon Steampunk Ala Grande will be part of a limited edition of just 9 pieces. Not sure how that measures out into the various different materials available for the watch. In addition to a rubber strap, a black crocodile one is available. Price will be well north of 0,000, maybe even north of 0,000. It is hard to gauge how optimistic Romain Jerome's CEO and lead designer Yvan Arpa is feeling. This is the watch steampunk watch to own this season, and priced for the independently wealthy mad scientist in us all, who rejects such fancy things such as electricity.

Pita Barcelona Oceana Diver’s Watch: Sounds Delicious, Looks Great

Located at the manufacture are various machines that work on the plates. One such machine is the CNC (Computer Numeric Control) device. This large machine is responsible for taking the metal plates and making the famous 3/4 German watch movement plates. The machine bathes the plates in a mineral oil while drilling and cutting them based on a pre-programmed design. That programming is what is essential to the entire process. Computer and hand drawn designs are blown up and carefully scrutinized by measurement machines. When the dimensions are perfect, the movement designs are programmed into the CNC machines to be cut on into the German Silver plates. The machines have a tolerance of just 4 microns. Deviations are not acceptable, and almost never experienced. The process of making the movement plates is about as calculated and time consuming as you might expect. The machine shops look like a cross between an optician's lab and an autoshop, but ultra clean and highly functional. Lots of white, and the hum of expensive machinery with the sweet scent of lubricating oil. No white coats just yet, you need to get further into the process for that.

Casio Wave Ceptor WVA430J-1A Watch Review: Solar, Atomic, Simple Wrist Time Reviews

What drives my passion for watches is not only the representation of time - and the complications - and the intricate dials - but the faces of those who feel the same. Especially when you get them talking. No matter what they do for a living, or who they are day-to-day, their interest in watches shapes them and their professions in so many intrinsic, unifying ways.
